Recipe #5 for The Dog Days of Summer

Ok Yall here is recipe number 5 for the Dog Days of Summer recipe challenge. This is one of my puppies favorites. They love apples and these applesauce treats are no exception!

What you will need:
-All Natural Applesauce
(this is important- please look for an applesauce that does not have any artificial sweetener, sugars, or preservatives. If you can make homemade applesauce that would be ideal.)
-Spoon
-Ice Cube Tray
-Butter knife or angled spatula

This technique is exactly like the one for the Yogurt Cubes. Start off by stirring up you applesauce and adding a spoon full of applesauce into each shape or cube.

This one got a little messy! What you will do next is shake the tray and tap it lightly on the counter to let all the sauce settle into the shapes and to get rid of all the air bubbles.

Once you do this you may find that some shapes need a little more sauce in them.

Now, get your butter knife or your angled spatula and scrape off the extra sauce.

Once that is done you can pop them into the freezer for a few hours and let them firm up. Once frozen, they come out looking like this.

You can store them in the ice tray if you like, but if you are limited on space in your freezer like me you can put them in a zip lock until your pups are ready for more.

And there you have it. Simple, quick and cheap!

Ok yall, We are not done yet! There is one more recipe I would like to share before we close out our Dog Days of Summer recipe challenge so stick with us!

Recipe #4 For the Dog Days of Summer

Here is recipe number 4 for our Dog Days of Summer recipe challenge. This recipe is a great addition to help your pup cool off during these hot lingering days of summer!

What you will need:
-Plain Yogurt
-Spoon
-Butter knife or angled spatula
-Ice Cube Tray

This one is super easy. All you need is some plain yogurt and you are in business! So, get you spoon, stir around your yogurt and put a spoonful of yogurt into each shape. I chose these cute summer shapes to make it a little more festive but you can use the cubes if you like.

Next, shake the tray and tap it lightly on the counter to let all the yogurt settle into the shapes and to get rid of all the air bubbles.

Once you do this you may find that some shapes need a little more yogurt in them.

Now, get your butter knife or your angled spatula and scrape off the extra yogurt.

Once that is done you can pop them into the freezer for a few hours and let them firm up. Once frozen, they come out looking like this.

You can store them in the ice tray if you like, but if you are limited on space in your freezer like me you can put them in a zip lock until your pups are ready for more. Store these in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Enjoy yall! I hope your pups love them as much as mine. You can also try adding strawberry, blueberry or even watermelon. Make sure to mix fresh fruit into the yogurt and not purchase already flavored yogurt from the store. Artificial sugars are NOT good for dogs.

Note: Like all things, too much of a good thing is never good. Please keep in mind that these are treats and should be given sparingly to avoid stomach upset.

Recipe #3 for The Dog Days of Summer

Here is our third recipe for the month. The dog days of summer are a lot nicer when you have yummy treats to cool you off. Our pumpkin pops will do just that for your pups.

What you will need:
1 can 100% puree pumpkin
Spoon
Wax Paper or Silicon Mat
Cookie Press
Cookie Sheet

First, you will need to open that can of pumpkin and give it a good stir. Then you need to scoop it into the cookie press.
Since the pumpkin is soft I put my cookie press full of pumpkin into the freezer for about 30 minutes. This firms up the pumpkin puree a bit and helps the pumpkin keep its shape once you squeeze it onto the cookie sheet.

After about 30 minutes you can take out the cookie press and begin to squeeze your pumpkin shapes onto the cookie sheet. I laid down a silicon mat so they would peel off easier but you can also use wax paper.

Once you have all your shapes pressed out you can pop them into the freezer. Mine took a few hours to become firm but you can leave yours in longer if needed.

If you don't have a cookie press you can always use the fail safe method of scooping it into a Kong and freezing it.

Storage:
Place the frozen treats in a zip lock bag and store for up to 6 months.

Last but not least, share your treats!

Recipe #2 for The Dog Days of Summer

Here is our second recipe for the month! Here is our version of Puppy Ice Cream or as many of yall know it as the brand Frosty Paws.

This recipe is all natural, fresh and without wheat, preservatives or dyes.

Here is what you will need:
-32 oz. Plain Yogurt
-1 Banana
- 2 tablespoons Honey
- 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter
- Bowl
- spoon or spatula
- a mold for your treats
- hand mixer or blender

First, put all your ingredients into a bowl, mix them by had or with a blender.

Once your mixture is nice and smooth you can then pour it into what ever mold you have for your ice cream.

I used a few Kongs as well as a bone shaped mold. You can also use a muffin pan, ice cube tray or other mold you have around the house.

Tips for filling the Kong. Use a dog treat or piece of dog food to stop up the small hole at the end of the Kong. This will keep all the ice cream from running out before it has a chance to freeze.

Lastly, pop it in the freezer until frozen.
Have fun yall! I hope your pups enjoy these!

Keep an eye out for out next recipe of the month!

Recipe # 1 for the Dog Days of Summer

Ok yall, it's still hot out and as promised here is recipe #1 to help your pup beat the heat!

What you will need:
-Watermelon
-Cookie Cutters
-Sharp Knife

This one is super easy. Just grab a watermelon, slice it up into about 1" slices and then use your favorite cookie cutters to cut your watermelon into great shapes. After all that just pop them in the freezer and they will be perfectly chilled for your pup to enjoy.

*tips- to avoid wasting the watermelon cut your watermelon out like you would rolled out cookie dough.

Also, any leftover bits of watermelon can be save and put into ice cube trays for watermelon cube treats.

Keep following for us for new recipes all month long! Our next recipe will be just as simple and tasty!
